Toast

What's in a name? Toast Durham lets the writing on the wall set the stage for hungry patrons waiting in line.

Toast: to make bread crisp and brown by heat.

What a great verb. After enjoying a meal here, it's easy to understand why this term was chosen to be the namesake and wall decoration for this truly authentic Italian sandwich shop. Toast takes the action of crisping and browning to another level, elevating it into an art form.
There's no better way to taste the toast than by ordering up one of their incredible panini sandwiches, grilled on rustic Italian bread.

My personal favorites are the Tuscan Kale, Portobello fontina, and local farm egg salad. With each of these sandwiches, the satisfying crunch of crisped bread gives way to the gooey, warm middle layer of flavorful ingredients.

If eating with a fork and knife is more your style, give the bruschetta a try. Think of it like an open faced sandwich: hefty slices of grilled bread topped with varying combinations of deliciousness. I speak highly of the merguez sausage and chickpeas with roasted tomato.

But a write-up on Toast would not be complete without mentioning their homemade soups, which change daily. The soups are OUT OF THIS WORLD good, and should not be missed out on for lunch or dinner. They pair perfectly with whichever toasted bread creation your stomach decides on.

Spicy Tuna
Toast also offers locally roasted coffee, bottles of craft beer and a small outside seating area that's perfect for warm weather dining.
