A morning that starts at Monuts usually has a way of turning into a particularly awesome morning. Walking down Parrish street, anticipating the deliciousness that's just on the horizon, my mood is magically lifted by the prospect of expertly crafted sweet circles of fried dough.
Monuts Donuts is a great local breakfast joint tucked away in Downtown Durham. Starting out as a mobile food truck/cart operation, it has since expanded into a brick and mortar location the specializes in making some utterly fantastic round breakfast creations.

Monuts deals exclusively in donuts and bagels, handmade every morning. Each day features different 'Monuts' (their rotating doughnut varieties) as well as their bagel sandwich Specials of the day.
You can also customize your own bagel sandwich with any combination of toppings: cheese, egg, avocado, greens, Peanut Butter, jam or maple sriracha.

The Chocolate Chai cake doughnut is the front runner for my personal favorite. Soft and dense with a cakey crumb, it's lifted to the next level of doughnut excellence by the light glaze and hint of chai flavor. Pair this doughnut with a cup of locally roasted coffee and you'll be ready to single handily take the day by storm.
